THEATRICAL CRITICISM.
{To the Editor of the Erenlnq Star.) Sir —On reading the Times this morning. I was astonishe I to see the way the a nateur performers of last night wore gently rubbed down (if I may use such horsey languag •) : as much as to say, “You have done very fairly ; but some 1 know of could have done it better.” No mention was even made that tho young gentleman who played the important part of Graves, together with Miss Gassy Ma hews were called for at tho close of the second act. And as to Graves “ not giving an idea of the power of the author.” I consider that the part was played admirably ; and it seemed to me a gross injustice to damp the ardor of a company of amateurs, who would no doubt, if requested, play again for tho benefit of the Benevolent Institute or any other local charity. Trusting you will bo pleased to insert the above in your impartial journal,—l am, &0., JUSTIXXA, Dunedin, Bth October, 1869.
