VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE.

The Annual Meeting of the Dunedin Volunteer Fire Brigade was held last evening. Captain Wain in the chair. Minutes of previous meetings and practice were read and confirmed.

One month’s leave of absence was granted to Messrs Bellman and Lawlor, and Mr C. Griraley’a resignation was received. Messrs A. Findlatcrand M'Kenzie were duly elected working members. Captain Wain said he was very much pleased with the procession the other evening. and he had no doubt the citizens were also.

The notice of motion by Foreman Lewis, given at last meeting, was withdrawn. The next business was to elect officers for the ensuing 12 mouths. Mr Job Wain was again returned without opposition as Captain, and took his seat amidst loud applause. He thanked the members for the honor again conferred upon him, and it afforded him great pleasure in saying that the officers and m mhers had worked harmoniously together for the past twelve months, and he hoped that by next annual meeting he would hold the same good opinion.

Mr Hobbs was then elected to the office of Lieutenant without opposition, and returned thanks in a very suitable manner. Mr John Lewis was also elected without opposition for the ofiice of Foreman of Hook and Ladder Company. Messrs J. Stewart and J. Hughes were then nominated for the office of Foreman of Hose Company, after going to the ballot, Mr Stewart was elected. For the office of Treasurer there were two candidates, Mr Baker, and Mr C. J. H. Robertson The latter gentleman was duly elected. The office of Secretary was next rendered vacant, by Mr Puflett expressing a wish to retire from the office ; but no other person being willing to hold the position, Mr t'uhett was induced to accept the post once more. In returning thanks, he said he felt proud of the position, and the good opinion expressed on this and many other occasions bv the members.

The Secretary was instructed to unite to Mr J. F. Chaplin, thanking him for his kindness in supplying horses and drivers ; also to the members of the Battalion Band, for their gratuitous services on the occasion of the last procession. Captain Wain then closed the meeting by informing the members that the next, practice Avocld take place on WednesdfA the 13th instant.
