BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Greymouth, Wednesday. Winter, the County Treasurer, has pleaded guilty to the charge of embezzling from the County funds L 2600. He is sentenced to three years’ imprisonment with hard labor. Three convictions have taken place for attempted suicide. Judge Richmond stated that embezzlement and suicide are greatly on the increase. The Judge’s charge was at once profound and brilliant. Hokitika is almost in a state of commercial collapse. Hokitika. Jones the Curator of Intestate Estates was brought up in contra accounts against the Government, His Honor stopped the case and discharged the defendant.|j The Emperor of the French has announced to M. de Lesscps his intention to create him Duke of Suez —at least so says the Court Journal, a not particularly good authority. The writer adds : —“ English compositors must be careful about the final letter.”
