WARDEN’S REPORT.
Mr Warden Robinson, writing from Mount Ida, under date August 31st, reports as follows : “Although there have been some falls of snow duriug the month, and the mountains still retain their white covering, yet the season has on the w'hole been pleasant, and spring seems to be fairly setting in. “ Mining opeiations are now being carried on without hindrance from the weather in all parts of the district, except Mount Burster. Water is plentiful, and the claims as a rule in full work. “The new proprietors of the Ida Valley Quartz Claim and machinery have started the works again, and it is anticipated that they will find they have made a profitable speculation. “The machinery for the Duke of Edinburgh Claim at Macrae’s has arrived on the ground.
“ One of the principal topics of the month among minors has been the new goldfield at the Maerewhenua, but the miners in this district have mostly interests in claims or races which are too valuable to leave. A few, however, seem disposed to try what can be done in the way of constructing water races on that side of the country. “The current rate of miners’ wages is L 3 to L 3 12s per week.”
