Southland Provincial Council. — On the 20th and the three following days, the debate on Mr Galder’s motion —“That the course pursued by his Honor the Superintendent in dismising his late Executive, and appointing another without consulting the Provincial Council on the points at issue, was unwarrantable, and that the administration of public affairs generally by the late Executive during their term of office commands the confidence of this House was continued, and it resulted in the motion being carried. At the next sitting, his Honor the Superintendent verbally intimated to the Speaker that, in consequence of the adverse vote of the previous evening, he desired to tender his resignation of office, and would do so in a more formal manner at next sitting. The Council sat again in the evening, but no message was received from his Honor, nor was the question introduced in any other way. The whole of the evening was occupied by the debate on Mr Johnstone’s motion for the appointment of delegates to arrange the basis of re-annexation with Otago. On the motion of Dr Monukton, the debate was adjourned.
