An enquiry into the wreck of the p.s. Bruce has been held before the Collector of Customs, at Greymouth. His decision was as follows “The vessel was lost through unavoidable accident, by the roughness of the sea outside the bar, driving the vessel into the break. That the accident occurred during an attempt to return to the Grey, the master finding the sea too rough, by a heavy sea having struck the ship, driving her bow to starboard, bursting in com-panion-door and skylight. That there is no blame to be attached to the master for crossing the bar, as the signalman’s evidence proves the bar was safe at the time, but he did not have the lights ready, owing to no application having been made.” He recommended that the authority of the Harbor-master should be extended beyond the bar, from Point Elizabeth to the Saltwater, as most of the casualties here took place on the beach and not on the bar. The vessel lias become a total wreck. Her rigging-fittings, and a portion of her engines, have been saved. The engines will be taken out and shipped to Dunedin. Her owners were Messrs George Harper of 6 v eymouth. and E, P. Houghton of Dunedin. She was valued at L 5,000, and was uninsured. BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH. ARRIVALS.
