PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Nomination of Candidates for Election to the Office of Mayor for the Municipal Year ending Ist August, 1870, will be declared on Friday, the 16th day of July instant, at the Terrace of the Provincial Council Chambers, at the hour of noon. Nominations must be in form of Schedule D., of the “Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” and be lodged at the Office of the Town Clerk, Princes street —where blank forms may be had—on or before noon of the day herein fixed for the declaration. Should the Citizens do me the honor to elect me as their Mayor, it will be my earnest endeavor to act to the best of my ability for the interests of the City generally, and in support of the dignity of the office. SIR, Having in view the approaching election for the office of Mayor of the City of Lunediu. we, the undersigned, ratepayers, desire to express our approbation of your public conduct in the Municipal Council for the past two years. We have observed the active interest which you have at all times taken in matters affecting the welfare of the citizens, and the independent manner in which you have always acted in the discharge of your duties ; we therefore are of opinion that your past conduct justifies us in believing that you will fill the office of Mayor with satisfaction to the Ratepayers, and with honor to yourself. We therefore request that you will allow yourself to be nominated for that office in the ensuing election ; and in the event of your acceding to this request, we pledge ourselves to use our best endeavors to secure your return.
