GENERAL ROAD BOARD.
THIS DAY. The General Bond Board met at the office of the Secretary of Laud and Works, at 11 o’clock. Present—His Honor the Deputy Superintendent, Messrs Beid and Duncan. An appiicat on for the formation of the New Road District, at Ahuriri, was sanctioned.
A letter from the Local Board, and a petition from the settlers at Pine Hill, were read, respecting Mr M'Fadgeous track. The Board declined to interfere.
Broad Bay.—A complaint was considered of certain settlers that the rates had not been properly spent. It was resolved that on issuing the next precept, a certain portion of the rates should he expended in the district. Sydney.—An application to close a road through sections jl, 2, 9, and 10, block 5, Otepopo, was sanctioned. Goodwood. —An application from Mr J. R, Joues, and the settlers in the district, to close the road through his property, was supported by Mr Harris, and it was resolved to refer the matter to the District Boad Board for information.
Walt:>n. —Mr Fagan’s objections, supported by Mr Doughty, to the new Hoad Line, on account of its cutting up his land without advantage, were referred the Local Board for report. j Ihe Board recommended L2O to be paid to Mr Law, as compensation for the main South ro.id through his property. Sandy Mount.—Mr Doughty, on behalf of Mr T, Gun, asked the Board to order L 5 to be expended on getting access to his property. It was directed that the i istrict Board be recommend to make the award.
Warepa.—On Mr Sutherland’s letter being read respecting the road through his property, it was decided that the decision of former Hoad Boards be confirmed. Fresh elections were directed to be held at Anderson’s Bay and Otanomomo. The meetings at Waihola, Glenavon, and Gleuore having lapsed, the elections were directed to take place on a future day. Objections w. re made against the legality of the elections at North Taicri, Green Island, Chalfurd, Sandymount, Caversham, and Brighton, These objections -were supported by persons from different districts. Mr Lloyd,—accompanied by other settlers from Green Island—said that in all country districts there were two parties, and Green Island was no exception. One was a go-a-head improvement party, and the other a stick-in-the-mud-do-nothing jiarty. One at Green Island was in favor of roads and improvements : and the other of sticking in th mud. Those who wished to stick in the mud brought up their legal and illegal forces, and i ersons had voted whose names were net on the roll, and some e ected who could had no right to be anpomtd members of the Committee, it c uld be proved that four or five voted who had no right to vote ; and in consquence, the election muse he illegal. The consideration of the elections named was postponed for the opinion of the Provincial Solicitor.
The appointments made by the Road Trustees of Koslyn, Chel ea, Chalfout, Portobel o, Mauugatna, Kaikorai, Lambtou, Te Houka, were sanctioned. Mrs M'Ewcu’s objection to a road passing through her property at Port Molyneux ; and one made to a road passing through Meesrs Saudilands and Had don’s property at Warepa, were referred to the District Koad Boards for arrangement. The application from Green Island, for authority to levy a road rate of one shilling in the pound, for IS(>9 70, was sanctioned. The Board adjourned to 2 o’clock,
