THE OTAGO POLITICAL ASSOCIATION.
(7'o the Editor of the Evening Star.) Your morning contemp rarv, \vhil< lecturing the “Otago Political Association,” has fallen into an error which [ hasten to correct. His Honor the Superintendent is not as your contemporary puts it, “the representative of Vice-Royalty in the Province, but simply of the inhabitants of the Province, just as his Worship the Mayor is a representative of the inhabitants of Dunedin.
I quite agree with the opinion that the Association should have called the meeting themselves; hut failing that, as they are supposed to stand forth as a Provincial rather than a City Association (as their name clearly shows), the Superintendent or his representative might quite legitimately be asked to do so; as what the Association 'wanted was an expression of opinion on the part of “ Otago ” ; and, therefore, the representative of “ Otago’s” representative might fairly have called a meeting for the purpose of eliciting it. His Honor the Deputy-Superintendent, however (and the Editor of the Times agrees) seems to regard himself as altogether irresponsible to the people of Otago, strong in his position as the representative of the representative of the representative of .Royalty. Yours, &c., Otagonian.
