THE COLONIAL WOOL MARKET.

(Buxton and Hunter,)

Si.ice the ckne of last sales, on March 24, very little has been dene in this market, and prices remain without change. Eus’eess in Hie manufacturing d-sti'cts, both here and abroad, is also quiet, and although the fine weather we lately had imparted more spirit to home departments, yet the position of our Woollen trade generally is not saiasfactory, shipping orders in particular being I-mited. Next sales will commence on May 6, and the arrival already amount to 180,000 bales, as enumerated at foot. I:i addition, a further quantity of about 60,000 bales may reach port in time, thus making a total fully equal to our present wants. On venturing an opinion as to how prices are I'l-ely to rule, It must be remembered that during last series wools were extremely low, and that this was caused to some extent by the great dis<nel ; aat’on of buyers to overstock themselves in anticipation of the large quantity expected home for May. Tips feeling was very general, and many of those who were not in immediate want d : d not attend the sales, so that stocks, by the opening day, ought to bo short in some quarters, and therefore we do not look for much change, although in a series of such duration fluctuations in value are sure to occur.

The arrivals to date consist of—Sydney and Queensland, 24,968 bales; Victoria, 92.161 bales ; Tasmania, 38G4 bales ; South Austval’a, 15,438 bales ; West Australia, 1C57 bales ; New Leal and, 12,743 bales ; Cape of Good Hope 27,929 bales ; total, 179,980 bales.
