ARRIVAL OF THE OMEO AT THE BLUFF.
Bluff, 9.1 a.m
The Omeo left Melbourne at noon on the 12th, clearing Port Philip Heads at 3.30 p.m. the same day. She passed Swan Island at 6 p.m. on the 13th. Had light variable winds until leaving Banks’ Straits, when fresh S.W. winds prevailed up to the 17th. Preservation Inlet was sighted at 9 a.m. on the 17th. From thence she had thick squally weather. She arrived off the Bluff at 6 p.m. the same day, and entered the Heads at 7.40 a.m. on the 18th. She brings a very large cargo of 600 tons, and 18 saloon and 30 steerage passengers, for all ports. She also brings 170 tons cargo for Dunedin. The Omeo leaves for Dunedin at 3 p ,TDi
There is no fresh news from Melbourne. The saloon passengers are Mrs Jamieson, Miss Jamieson, Mr Edwards, Mrs Haggitt, Messrs M‘ Master, W. J. Clarke, Flexmau, and 11 in the steerage. Napier, Friday, June 18, 3.40 p.m. Communication has been opened with Fort Galatea. Colonel St. John has arrived there safe. Major Roberts left Fort Galatea for Runanga, but he has been delayed consequent on the transport refusing to proceed beyond Herauvau, as they were afraid of being cut off. Four men unaccounted for at Opepe escaped to Fort Galatea.
