THE RINDER-PEST. {To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sir, —Through the misuse of one letter, a very ludicrous mistake is now going through the press unnoticed. Kinder-pest, as printed, would be translated children’s pest or disease, whilst rinder-pest, the original word means oven or cattle disease. The mistake has crept into print through the K and R being so very similar in the German type. This any of youi readers may see by reference to works in German character. Similar errors are of not unfrequent occurrence even in our leading home journals when extracting from German papers. —Your obedt. servt..
