A Costly Mistake. —A correspondent of the Lyttelton Times says :—Last week, at Greymouth, Mr. Allen, the agent of one of the banks, made an unfortunate mistake. He bought a large parcel of gold from a party of miners, and in paying them gave them the price of one hundred ounces more than he should have done. The mistake was in the evening, and the slip of paper on jrhicn the calculation was made men were communicated with, they did not know the amoun'^^gg«Wßß^^ 0 id, and they decline to refund.ißSbwever, as it happens, a great portion of the entire sum received by them was left in the bank as a fixed deposit, and there is little question but that the bank will see its own again.
