MINING INTELLIGENCE.
The company working the copper lode at Reddy Creek continues to meet with every encouragement. The shaft lately opened lower down the stream than the first shaft, is turning out very well, and altogether the vein seems to be harder : the per of ore has also increased, Mr Gillies (of Gillies and Street, Surveyors, Dunedin) visited the ground last week ; and although the purport of his visit has not transpired, it has been, remarked that since his departure considerable activity has been infused into the Company’s proceedings. —TuapeJca Recorder.
During the sitting of the Warden’s Court, Mr Hacket, the manager of the Copper Lode Company, applied for a prospecting claim for a quartz reef discovered by him. We have not obtained any particulars of the discovery beyond the fact that it is situated near to Reddy Creek, lower down the stream than the place at which the copper ore is being wrought. With-' out venturing any opinion regarding the real merits of this new discovery, we may only allude to it as an additional evidence of the intrinsic value of the ground in and around Waipori. The Otago Pioneer Quartz Crushing Company arc at present engaged upon a very rich seam ; in fact, it is described as the richest yet struck by them. — Ibid. Mining matters are absolutely at a standstill as far as the banks of the river are concerned : the Molyneux having on Tuesday last attained a higher level than at any time during the prese it year. In all probability, however, it will in the course of a few days have fallen sufficiently to allow stripping to be resumed.— lbid.
