We have been favored by Mr Biss, the Acting "Chief Postmaster, with a return of the number and amount of money orders issued and paid in the Province of Otago during the month of October, 1865. The total amount of money orders issued was £1938 8s sd, and the amount paid £1444 lis. Since the commencement of the money order system on the Ist September, 1862, no less a>um than £111,070 has passed through the Post Offices of Otago, of which amount £82,335 represented the money orders issued, and £28,735 the orders paid.

At the monthly meeting of the Volunteer Fire Brigade held last evening, it was decided to accept the offer of the City Council to remove and re-erect the engine-house on the site on the reclaimed ground at the corner of Battray and High-streets. Pending the removal and reerection of the building, Mr Grey lias generously placed at the free disposal of the Brigade a Building in Maclaggan-street. We are glad to notice that two of the Otago members of Assembly have invited their constituents to meet them. Mr Macandrew and Mr Burns, the members for Bruce, have arranged to meet the electors at Waihola on Monday, the 13th inst. ; at Tokomairiro on the 14th ; at Clutha Ferry on the 15th, and at East Taieri on the 16th. It is to be hoped the example thus set will he followed by the Dunedin members.

Capt. Macs, who is reported ■wounded in a skirmish with the natives near'Warea, Taranaki, is the officer who in 18G2 came down to Otago and raised the Otago contingent for the occupation of the territory on which the massacre of the escort took place between Tataraiiuaka and Omata. Captain Mace is one of the smartest officers in the Taranaki Militia, and has been present at almost every important engagement with the rebels in the neighborhood of New Plymouth. The number of new accounts opened last night at the Savings Bank was 14. The deposits amounted to £304 Is 4d; the withdrawals to £136 5s 2d.

By the Phoebe to-day there arrived the two remaining Otago members, Messrs Haughton and Wayne. Dr Menzies, ex-; Superintendent of Southland, and his bride, and Miss Bathgate were amongst the passengers. Miss Edith Palmerston, the monologist, accompanied by her agent (Mr -Alexander), arrived to-day by the Phoebe, and will commence her entertainment at the Theatre Royal on Thursday evening. The Committee of the " Reynolds' Banquet" met this afternoon at the Provincial Hotel. The offer of Mr John M'Cubbin to provide, was accepted ; and from the arrangements spoken of, we anticipate that the affair will be a brilliant one. We learn by an advertisement in another column, that St. George's Hall has been selected for the occasion.
