Mantjherikia.—Mr Warden Hickson reports that the Scandinavian Race, Dunstan Creek, is almost complete. The Blackstone Hill Water Race Co. 's branch race to Pennyweight Gully is completed, and will be in full operation next week. The Ida Valley Water Race Co. commence their operations on Monday next. The whole of the shares in this race are taken up, amounting to 40. At present the shares are limited to £SO each, but it is contemplated to increase them to £7O to cover the expense of taking the race to Black's No. 1. A first-class practical man has been appointed as manager (Mr Andrew Wood, of Lower Mannherikia). Taieei and Hamilton.—Mr Warden Broad reports that as far as mining matters are concerned, the district generally was never more prosperous. From 20 to 30 miners have returned to M'Crae's Flat from Hokitika. At M'Crae's the average earnings are now from £4 to £5 per week ; the lead is being traced down the flat, and there is a large area available for occupation. The depth of sinking is about 14 feet near Douglas and Alderson's Home Station, and a company has started to work some deep wet ground- in that locality. A rush has occurred to the upper end of M'Crae's Flat, and a few claims are being sunk to test the ground. Wages at M'Crae's Flat 72s to 80s per week. Mount Ida progresses favorably, and maintains a steady population.
