MAGISTRATE'S COURT
In the Magistrate's Court yesterday John Duncan, labourer, 36 (Mr. G. C. Kent) pleaded not guilty to a charge of receiving from some person unknown a lady's costume, three sheets; and a suit length, of a total value of - £14 4s 6d, the property of Heimann's, Ltd., know: ing them to have been dishonestly obtained. Mr. W; F. Stilwell, S.M., com-' mitted him to the Supreme Court for' trial. A further charge of theft; of 9J yards of organdie muslin, valued at 15s Bd, the property of the Port Line, Ltd., to which the accused also pleaded not guilty, was adjourned for a fortnight. Leonard Ralph. Hale, cabinetmaker, 25 (Mr. J. Bergin) was also committed for trial after he had pleaded not guilty to a charge of breaking and entering the Disabled Servicemen's shop in Willis Street en October 18 and there committing theft. A further charge of wilfully damaging an overcoat, . the property of Albert lan Knapp, thereby committing mischief, was adjourned until after the next Supreme Court sessions.
Two members of the crew of the lAkaroa, Ivor Thomas Clemerson and William Shaw, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court yesterday to charges of deserting from their ship and were each" sentenced to a month's imprisonment with hard labour by Mr. J.
