SCOTS COLLEGE SPORTS

In fine weather and with the grounds in good condition the pupils of Scots College held their athletic sports day on the college grounds on, Thursday. There was a good gathering of parents and friends of the school. The high standard of performance of the competitors was shown by the fact that four school records were broken. In the intermediate mile. J. Gibbs beat Gray's 1941 record of smin 13sec by 4sec. J. Booker, who showed outstanding form, broke three school records. He lowered the 1921 record in the 100 yards intermediate of 11 l-ssec by 2-ssec, and he broke the 1940 record of 24 2-ssec in the 220 yards intermediate by 2-ssec. Finally, he ran the 440 yards intermediate in 56 4-ssec, breaking the 1929 record of 57 4-ssec. Championships were won as follows.—Senior: A. Radford, lOpts, 1; H. Lee, 9pts, 2; W. Edwards, Bpts, 3. Intermediate: J. Booker, 14pts, 1; G. Jones, ltpts. 2; D. Valentine, 6pts, 3. Junior: D. Boyd, 12pts, 1; P. Swain, ll_pts, 2; P. Bustin, {>_pts, 3. Points for the school houses were.— Fergusson, 125_; Gibb, 125_; Aitken, IJI- _ r, ■ _ The senior mile was won by Cornish in smin 7 2-ssec, with Lee-Jones and Edwards second and third respectively. In the 880 yards senior, Radford was first, Cornish second, and Edwards third. Edwards won the 440 yards senior in 60 2-ssec, with Radford second and Low third. The 220 yards senior was won by Radford and the 100 yards by Akers. Tennent (sft lin) was first in the senior high jump, Edwards was first in the long jump (17ft 18_in), Sellen was first in the shot put, and in the discus .final Munro was first, 103 ft 6in.
