8,000,000 REFUGEES
MILLIONS MORE TO COME
Rec. noon. LONDON, October 26. The Germans evicted from the East and moved into the Russian zone at Germany total about 6,700,000, according to the Bavarian Communist Schlatfer who is Director for Refugees and Displaced Persons in the Russian zone In addition there are at least 920,000 refugees-who were evacuated from western Germany during the first heavy air raids, making approximately 8,000,000 refugees in the Russian zone. Schlaffer expects another 4,500,000, comprising 2,500,000 from .Czechoslovakia, 1,500,000 from Poland and 500,000 from Hungary. -.. _!" He said the relief organisation would do its best to cater for the new arrivals if it was warned when and where to expect them, but when, as often happened, they suddenly found thousands of people crossing the frontier then difficulties were multiplied many times. About 500 camps are now functioning. 'Most of the camps lacked heating installations, but it is expected, that they will continue to accommodate 1,500,000 refugees during the winter.
