OBITUARY
MR. R. R. J. WARD
P.A. AUCKLAND, This Day. The death of Mr. R. R. J. Ward, who had been superintendent in 'Charge of the Auckland police district from 1941 until his retirement in May this year, occurred at the Rotorua Hospital last night. Mr. Ward, who was 65, I went to Rotorua for a holiday about six weeks ago. and was admitted to hospital three weeks ago. He. joined the police force in 1903 and haa a distinguished career in cr:me investigation and as an administrator. He. held positions in various parts of the Dominion, including Groymouth, Wanganui, and Wellington. He came to Auckland in 1934 as i inspector in charge of the uniform branch, and later of the detective branch. In October, 1941, he.was promoted superintendent and placed in charge of the Auckland district, in succession to Mr. J. Cummings, the present Commissioner of Police.
