FALSE IDEA

JOINT DOMINATION

BRITAIN AND AMERICA

Any idea that Britain and America together could dominate the peace of the world was untrue and false and would inevitably lead to conflict that would destroy the peace of the world, said the Minister of Finance (Mr. Nash) speaking on the World Charter in the House of Representatives this morning.

Other nations had to come in on the same level, added Mr. Nash. While there was the fact that the three great Powers —Britain, the United States, and Russia —held power at present, the world could not permanently accept the fact that the leaders of those nations were going to determine all world relations. It could be less accepted that three men could determine the road the world was to go. That could never be accepted if permanent peace were desired. Admittedly there was no peace possible without the co-operation of Britain and the United States, but to imagine they could maintain and determine peace would ultimately burst the world up. At San Francisco power had won and the veto had won; but the fact also came out that Mr. Fraser and the representatives of Australia asserted there'was another road that ought to be travelled. Having asserted that no one of five nations had the right to veto the desires of 49 others, they got so much support from other nations which liked the views expounded that it was recognised that small Powers were important and had some responsibility for the future of the world. The way to settle differences was to bring like-minded countries together and have full discussions and accept the general responsibility of all countries.
