CARTERTON SHOW

The committee of the Wairarapa Show is busy preparing for the show to be held at Carterton on October 26 and 27. The society, pursuing its progressive policy, has increased the prize-money by £200, and has included many new and special classes in the schedule. North Island Southdown championship medals are to be competed for, and there will be a £")0 bnconer competition.

A kingfisher which joined a feasting throng of blackbirds and thrushes around a large, soft marrow was mobbed and • pecked to death near a compost heap in the grounds of St. Peter's School, Cambridge, states the "Taranaki Herald." Wounds on the head and a break in the bird's skull were evidence of the ferocity of the attackers.
