DEAD MAN'S CLOTHES
A distressing position has arisen in Yugoslavia owing to the shortage of clothing resulting from the German occupation. When a person dies, whether from natural causes, starvation, or exposure to the cold, mobs of shivering, half-naked people try to obtain his clothes. Some offer fabulous sums, others simply beg for ?n odd garment —anything they can wear. In a dozen other European countries conditions are no better. To ease the situation, UNRRA, sponsored by the New Zealand Government, is endeavouring to collect 1,000,0001b weight of clothing, footwear, blankets, and bedding to be sent abroad within the next few weeks. Citizens are asked to inspect their wardrobes and put aside everything they can spare and deliver the goods if possible to their local receiving depot.
