HARBOUR BOARD GIVES UP
P.A. WAIROA, July 25. At a meeting which lasted less than half an hour the Wairoa Harbour Board decided to go out of existence. A resolution was carried that the board's solicitor be instructed to take steps to prepare the necessary legislation to carry into effect the disbandment of the board. A sub-committee reported that rates should be continued and should be collected by the Wairoa Borough and County Councils in their respective districts; that the Wairoa Board rating areas should not be included in the area of any other board for rating purposes without the consent of the ratepayers by poll; and that a local Bill should be promulgated ta give effect to the whole procedure It is expected that the board will not cease to function until October, 1946.
