RED CROSS SOCIETY

DOMINION EXECUTIVE

The Dominion Council of the New Zealand Red Cross Society, which met in Wellington yesterday under the chairmanship of Mr. C. G. White, decided that in future its annual meeting should be held alternately in the four main centres. Christchurch will be the scene of the next annual meeting. The chairman announced that negotiations for official recognition of the status of the society had almost been completed. That such recognition was due had been acknowledged by the Prime Ministers Department, and the matter was now in the hands of the military authorities. It would then go before the War Cabinet. "This matter has been going on for two years, and it is quite time that it was completed, said Mr. White. He hoped it would be possible to convey a decision to the members before the deliberations were completed this week. Miss M. Havelaar (Christchurch) said that many men returning from overseas had become keenly interested in the work of the society, and it was essential that their support should be secured. Mrs. T. H. Lowry (Hawke's Bay) announced, amidst applause, that she would carry on as vice-president for another year. When congratulating Canterbury members on their work, she said that their example by going into the hospitals had been an inspiration to women throughout the Dominion.
