DEATH OF SOLDIER

A verdict that Reginald James Shearer, a New Zealand soldier, died on June 25 as a result of injuries received .when a car he was driving collided with a stationary lorry in Taranaki Street, was returned by the Coroner, Mr. W. G. L. Mellish, at an inquest yesterday afternoon. Evidence was given that the car, the property of the U.S. Ordnance, had been taken by.Shearer without authority. He had been advised by a friend to abandon it; and witnesses stated that the car was travelling at a fairly high rate of speed when the accident occurred. Severe damage was , done to the loiry, part of which penetrated the car and caused the injuries to the deceased's chest and throat from which he died. . •
