AT BALIK PAPAN

WASHINGTON, July 23.
In the Balik Papan area the Australians overran enemy positions in the vicinity of Mt. Batochampar and patrolled three miles on the inland road, reports General Mac Arthur's communique. R.A.A.F. fighters attacked the Sandakan area, northern Borneo.
R.A:A.F. bombers and fighters •in widespread sweeps cratered the Tanamon airfield in Celebes, strafed water craft and fuel supplies in the Moluccas, and sank two barges and set fire to installations in Lesser Sundas. Medium bombers struck at enemyoccupied villages in the Wewak sector. "
Marine and R.N.Z.A.F. units attacked isolated enemy groups in the Bismarcks and Solomons. ' .
Air patrols destroyed eight cargo ships off the south-west /coast of Formosa, ranged over the China Sea, and sank two enemy freighters, damaged another in the Gulf of Siam, and sank a schooner and harassed harbour craft and bombed rail installations in IndoChina."
