"REPORT TO HIMSELF"
MEMBER OF COMMISSION
Some uneasiness had been caused by the clause in the Finance Bill providing that members of the- General Assembly should not be disqualified by receipt of remuneration as members of the Commission on Licensing, said Mr. C. G. E. Harker (National, Waipawa) in the. House of Representatives yesterday afternoon during the committee stage of the Bill.
Mr. Harker said there was legislative provision designed to prevent members of Parliament and, in certain instances, candidates, from occupying certain positions and receiving remuneration. The clause dealt with a special commission and proposed that members of the Legislature or candidates might be added at any time. At present there was a member of the Legislature on the Commission. He would duly present his report and in another capacity would decide whether the changes he might recommend should be made. He would report to himself and then decide whether he had reported wisely or unwisely.
