FIRE BRIGADE DISPUTE
P.A. DUNEDIN, July 24. Coincident with the laying of an information by the Dunedin Metropolitan Fire Board against brigadesmen who have participated in a partial strike that has operated for almost a month, members of the Fire Brigades' Union have voluntarily returned to full duty. This decision ended a stalemate that has existed since June 25, when the firemen agreed to do no work other ithan the answering of alarm calls, the repairing of any breakdown in the fire I alarm, system, and watchroom duty. ; It is understood that the men have gone back to work unconditionally and that, in the. meantime, the position is really as it was before the dispute started. ' ,
John Lawson Whitlock, clerk, 43, pleaded not guilty before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday to a breach of the Shipping Safety Emergency Regulations, in that he gained entrance to the Dock Wharf without a permit on Monday night. After evidence had been heard he was convicted and fined £2 10s.
