ESCAPED DEFAULTER SENTENCED
P.A. PALMERSTON N., July 24. Pleading guilty to a charge of escaping from a defaulters' detention camp at Whitanui, near Foxton, in October, 1943, Edward Charles Tapp, motor driver, 23, who was arrested at Upper Hutt, was sentenced by Mr. H. D. L,awry, S.M., to three months' imprisonment. It was explained to the accused that he would have to serve a period equal to that while he was at liberty—6ss days—in detention after the end of the war.
