EASTBOURNE CLUB
The thirty-eighth annual meeting of the Eastbourne Bowling Club, presided over by Mr. L. A. Goldmg, was attended-by 50 members. >^ - , 1 The report and balance-sheet were, regarded as being very satisfactory. Extensive additions and . renovations had been made to the pavilion, which had much improved the appearance ox. the building..;-. ' ' . ■ ■ The membership was 122 and1 the cash balance £306 7s, 3d. -The five gala days tournaments had been fully supported, and the ladies' committee which attended to the catering arrangements on those / occasions was specially thanked. Both of the. clubs greens had played very well. Tribute was paid to the valuable services rendered the^club by the retiring president, Mr. C, L. Bishop, who towards the close of/last season proceeded overseas to take up an UNRRA appointment. Mr. Bishop was made an honorary member during his absence from New Zealand. Sympathetic reference was made to the deaths several old and valued'members, including Messrs. J. Battersby, H. E/ Gilbert (both life members), H. S. Jenkins, R. Read, J. Smith, and A. B. TrythalL In centre events T. H. Hotter reached the semi-final stage of the/ senior singles championship and T. Deyis was runner-up in the centre junior singles" championship. "... ' The following officers were elected: President, Mr. L. A. Golding; vicepresident, Mr." L. J. Flank; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. A. Clements; honorary auditor, Mr. C. H. Francis; delegate to centre, Mr. W. F. Hornig; sole selector, Mr. J. W. Logan; match director, Mr. D. K. Jenkins; green superintendent, Mr. H. Montague; committee, Messrs.- W. Anderson, J. W. Cook, W. F. Hornig, D. K. Jenkins, J. W. Logan, and H. Montague. UPPER HUTT CLUB The report presented at the annual meeting of the bowling section of the Upper Hutt Bowling, Croquet, and Tennis Club, over which the retiring president, Mr. J. Hayden, presided, stated that in the inter-club competitions Upper Hutt had been successful in annexing the Hutt Valley banner. The following were successful in the club competitions:—« Senior singles, J. Goodwin; junior singles, W. Beech; senior pairs, H. Pelling and O. Plummer; rinks, F. O'RilGy, R. Mudgway, J. Russell, and N. McDonald; percenttage fours, W. Kilner, G. Wale, T. Lightfoot, .and O. Plummer. Feeling reference was made at the meeting to the deaths of three members, Messrs. C. Price, A. Rendle, and P. Quinn. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr. F. Hercock; vice-president, Mr. G. Wale; honorary secretary, Mr. A. J. Severn; minute secretary. Mr. F. Murphy; honorary treasurer, Mr. R. H. Ashford; committee, Messrs. J. Brown v D. Greig, G. Guthrie, A. Jackson, T. Lightf oot, K. Morrison, and J. Pepper; green superintendent, Mr. J. Forrest; official umpires, Messrs. G. Guthrie and E. Mudgway; sole selector, Mr. J. Pep-/ per; delegate to Wellington Centre, Mr. W. Kerr; delegate to Hutt v \Valle-"-Centre, Mr. F. Murphy; • V v'
