AUSTRALIAN BOXER

OFFER OF FIGHTS IN N.Z;

Rec. 12.40 p.m. SYDNEY, July 23. The Australian, welterweight boxer Dal Conway has received an offer ol £750, with an option of 30 per cent, of the "gates," for three fights in: New Zealand, says the "Daily -Telegraph's"' boxing writer. The offer was made by Mr. Pat Gleeson on behalf of New Zealand promoters: Mr. Gleeson has been appointed representative in Australia of the Wellington Boxing Association. He was one of Sydney's leading boxers 25 years ago. One of his jobs is to recommend suitable boxers to New Zealand promoters and arrange their contracts. New Zealand is. particularly interested in Australia's middleweights and welterweights. The offer to Conway is being seriously considered by his manager, J. Minahan.

The New Zealander Vie Caltaux has been? matched with Les Sloan, challenger for the Australian welterweight and middleweight boxing titles, and the pair will meet at Sydney Stadium, on September 1. Caltaux's Australian manager, F. Atkins, expects Caltaux will arrive in Sydney on August 10. Caltaux will meet Tommy Burns, the Queensland champion, late in September, and the match against Sloan, should be a good warm-up for him.
