N.Z. FOUNDERS' SOCIETY
Patriotic activities of the women's committee were outlined in the report I presented to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Founders' Society last t night Members, under the leadership of Mrs. A. Burnard, had assisted at the A.N.A. Club, and had been on duty at hospitality bureaux. To date 377 articles had been knitted for the Metropolitan Patriotic Committee, 118 for the Air Force Relations, and a number were handed to the Red Cross. The preparation of soldiers' parcels, clothing for Greece, parcels-for prisoners of war, as well as entertainment of men of the Merchant Navy, were other activities in which the committee had taken part. During the- year the secretary of the women's committee. Miss C. Gulespie, had tendered her resignation, and the assistant secretary. Miss W. Helhwell, had taken over. Miss Gillespie had continued to act in an advisory capacity. Thanks were due to both these. officials for their services.. A number of social functions had been held during the year, which, despite the many calls on the time of members, had been successful Squadron Leader Bell, the retiring president, said that he was unable to accept the office for a further term. Major P. de B. Brandon was elected president Mr Justice Johnston again accepted the office of deputy president. Vice-presidents and members of the committee were re-elected. Gold badges were presented to Major de Brandon- and Squadron Leader Bell, and tributes paid to the work of all office-bearers.
