SECTORS OF ADVANCE
SWIFT ALLIED DR.VE
RUGBY, September 3. The sectors of the Allied advance from the general area of north-western France appear to be:—First, in the extreme north, where the capture of Tournai, five miles inside the Belgian frontier, by an armoured column believed to have been British, has left the closely-invested town of Abbeville far in the rear. Second, the region of the Ardennes, where American spearheads are reported to have reached the Maas Canal and are by-passing Namur and driving north-east towards the Siegfried Line and the German frontier. Third, the Lorraine and Moselle area, where fighting is undoubtedly in progress in the general area of Nancy and Metz. The sector of stiffest resistance seems to be north-east" of Paris, in the areas of the Forest of Compiegne, St. | Quentin, and Cambrai. Observers on the south-east coast of England have reported heavy explosions in the Boulogne-Calais area, possibly indicating German demolitions. Meanwhile the advance up the | Rhone Valley from the south continues, and correspondents describe the triumphant entry into Lyons. • 'i Only from Brest comes news of a forlorn German stand.—B.O.W.
