VICTORY IS ASSURED

EISENHOWER'S BROADCAST I Rec. 11 ajn. RUGBY, September 4. General Eisenhower has broadcast the following message to the peoples of north-western Europe, who are now being liberated, or are about to be liberated. His last similar broadcast was to" the French at the outset of the campaign in the West. "Today I address myself to the people of Belgium. Your long period of hardship under the heel of Nazi domination will soon be ended. It is certain that you will bear bravely the hardships of war, which are inevitable in a battle of pursuit such as is now being fought upon your soil. "The first task of the Allied armies is to harry and destroy the retreating enemy. This purpose will be pursued vigorously so that the day of our final success may come sooner. WITH LIBERATORS. • "Armed forces of Belgium and Luxemburg form part of the Allied Expeditionary Force and are fighting bravely for the freedom of their homelands. Those of you who are within those homelands can also serve in the battle. I know you can be relied on to aid that task whenever opportunity occurs. "Be assured that it is our purpose to do everything to restore peace and normal conditions throughout Belgium and Luxemburg at the earliest opportunity so that their valiant peoples will once again be masters of their own destiny and may live as ■ free men I should also like to address another word to the people and leaders of France. Your actions, behaviour and conduct have been exemplary throughout the difficult times through which we have passed together. 'You have faced trying weeks with fortitude and cheerfulness. Much of our success is owed to the fighting abilities of your armed forces and the Forces of the Interior and to the assistance of the populations. "People of the Netherlands, too be confident that your day of liberation approaches. To all of you I say, 'Be ofSood courage. Victory is assured. 1" —8.0. W.
