MONS REACHED
PACE OF ALLIED ADVANCE LONDON, September 3. In one of the big thrusts into Belgian territory the historic town of Mons has been reached. The column making this achievement has covered 130 miles against the Germans in the past six days. Two British armoured columns have Joined the Allied drive which is heading • towards the Belgian capital of Brussels. '. On the •coastal section of the front Canadians and Poles have outflanked ift.bbeville. In what -was described as the retreat to the Rhine, a correspondent states that for the great majority of the Gerpians who have no transport it is a • case of every man for himself. All manner of means of getting back, even toot-slogging, are being used. "Get fc>ack somehow" is the -only order for the Germans, the correspondent states. It' is reported that in Lyons street fighting is in full swing, with the men Df the Maquis gaining the upper hand, kn inspection of the .city revealed that Inost of the famous Lyons factories appeared to be intact-. With the rapid advance of the Allied' Forces towards Germany the question js asked by a London paper: "Who is joing to surrender for Germany?" Another London paper supplies the mswer: "Certainly not Hitler."
