THRUST IN BURMA
SLIGHT RESISTANCE MET
Rec. 10 a.m. COLOMBO, Sept. 3. Troops of the Fourteenth Army, moving southward after clearing enemy positions on the Tiddim road, are meeting with- only slight resistance. Some progress was made towards the Chindwin on the track from Tamu to Sittaung. At present about 85 miles separates the Thirty-sixth Diyisicn, which is driving1 down the railway, I from the other British troops moving east towards the Chindwin. About 50 miles separates the Chinese patrols in the Kazu area south of Myitkyina from the Chinese forces in the neighbourhood of Tengchung, which are pressing westward towards i Burma.
