CLASSFORM FORWARD

BRILLIANCE OF SUBDUED

(Special to "The Post.") PALMERSTON N.,-This Day. Heavy overnight rain at Awapuni i made the tracks sloppy for Saturday's gallops and the times were slow.. The flagp were 50, feet out. !. One of the best gallops of the morning was that of Classform (J. Bowness) I and Sovereign Lad (R. B. Ireland) j over a mile. After breaking 18sec | for the first furlong they settled down ito work attractively, finishing strongly to complete in 2.24, the best of the morning over the distance. Classform should be in good fettle for Wanganui. j Another fine effort was that of Subdued (A. G. Waddeli) and Rink (S. ! Waddell) over sev^n furlongs from the barrier on the course proper. Subdued, from a near standing start, was away brilliantly, and Rink could not foot it with her over the first part, I though he was under pressure. SubIdued was steadied as they approached the five, reached in 29 3-ssec, and they were together at the three, reached in 60sec. They were allowed to make their own arrangements over the last three, and finished smoothly to complete in 1.44 3-5. Other efforts over a mile included those of Langue dOr (S. Waddell) and Dunbar (A. Waddell), 2.4; Anglo-Irish and The Champ, 2.4 2-5; and Don Quex i (A. Waddell) and Sival (S. Waddell) in 2.5 3-5. At the finish of his task, Don Quex was going very comfort- | ably, but Sival, not at home in the going, was under pressure to stay on terms: Kinsman (S. Waddell) and Greek Effort (M. Andrews) were going well at the end of seven "furlongs in 1.48. Choral Dance, Strategical, and Royal Scholar were in, that order at the end of seven in 1.52 2-5. Theolateral (W. J. Broughton) and Alchemy (W. Rout) worked very kindly over five, coming" home the last three in 44sec, to complete in 1.14. • Horses timed over four furlongs included Happy Climax, 58 2-ssec, the last three in 44sec; Sir Bradbury (J Jenkins), 58 3-ssec; the last four in 43 3-ssec; Kaitoa (V. Sellars) and Vivid Night (W. J. Stevens), 57 4-ssec. There were a number of interesting flutters over three furlongs. Battle Dance (J. Bowness) was in front of Good Scout (S. Waddell) and Solver (A. Waddell) after taking 41 2-ssec. A Bulandshar gelding and Royal Regret took 42 3-ssec. Controller (Andrews) ran the distance in 42 2-ssec. iPhalaria (J. Fagan) was never at top |in covering the distance in 45 3-ssec. Stony Broke (Andrews) went round to the three and was speeded up to run home in 45 2-ssec. Glen Urquhart j took 46sec. The best effort over the distance was that of Blanket (A. Waddell) and Dileas (S. Waddell). They | covered extra ground and completed in !41sec. ; Intense worked easily over half a imile, taking 44sec for the last three. [Lady Midian (Pearce) and Green- | feast (Bowry) worked over five in 1.16 2-5, and Magic Art was in front of iTaharua at the end of five in 1.17. Merger and Gold Bridge were timed to run the last seven of a mile in 1.50.
