NATIONAL SERVICE
STAFF APPOINTMENTS
The Minister of National Service (Mr. McLagan) today announced several senior staff appointments which have been made in his Department's head office and Wellington district office.
Mr. McLagan said that, as a result of the recent appointment of Mr. H. L. Bockett to the dual position of Dix-ec-tor of National Service and Controller of Man-power, and due to the wide scope of the functions of his Department, covering national service matters generally and man-power control, it had become necessary to reorganise the head office administration and to appoint two senior officers to act as assistants to Mr. Bockett. Accordingly. Mr. J. V. Brennan had been appointed Assistant Director of National Service, and Mr. H. Parsonage Assistant Controller of Man-power. Both Mr. Brennan and Mr. Parsonage have been attached to the Department since its inception, Mr. Brennan previously having been senior executive officer of the civil defence division and later occupying a similar position in the former rehabilitation division which was the forerunner of the Rehabilitation Department. Mr. 'Parsonage has been Mr. Bockett's assistant on man-power work since the inception of man-power control and was previously accountant to the Department. Provision has also been made for the appointment of a departmental inspector, and Mr. E. A. Selman, who until recently was district man-power officer in Wellington, has been appointed to this position. Mr. M. C. Smith, who was previously chief clerk in the head office, iias taken over the position of district man-power officer, Wellington.
