MUSICAL TREND

BETTER DAYS AHEAD

O.C. WANGANUI, Septemebr 1. "I am sure there is a deepening reaction from 'jive,' or swing music, and a trend towards the better class of music," said Kir. Henri Perm, noted pianist, in an interview. For the past 18 months Mr. Perm has given concerts arranged by the Welfare and Education Services of the Armed Forces, and he has visited the Pacific war theatre in the course of his contract. Men in the Pacific, he said, had become tired of swing music and he had encountered a desire for music of a much type. Men were turning more readily to ballads and light classical types of music. He knew also that this tendency had become noticeable among the armed forces in the Middle East. Establishment of schools of music within New Zealand in the post-war period was likely to come a,bout as a result of this reaction, he said. He believed that such schools should not be confined to the four main centres, but should also be established in the provincial centre?
