WELL-SPENT LIFE

W. M. HUGHES'S CAREER

CANBERRA, August 31. "The way to live long politically is to risk all and regard every day as your last," said Mr. W. M. Hughes, Australia's Prime Minister during the last war, speaking at a Parliamentary dinner to mark the 50th anniversary of his election to an Australian Parliament. . "I have contrived to lead both Federal parties and to convince the people of the worth of both—and that is no small achievement. If I had my time over again I cannot see one thing I have done that I would not do again." Tributes to Mr. Hughes were paid by all the parties.
