OVERSEAS COMMENT
ON NEW ZEALAND WAR EFFORT.
To be wise after the event is the privilege of the unthinking. But in view of the criticism of New Zealand's war effort from some, quarters it is interesting to quote the words of the "Montreal Daily Star": "New Zealand undoubtedly displayed a greater awareness before the war than any other unit of the British Commonwealth of Nations. The record of New Zealand Forces in the air, on land, and at sea cannot be too highly eulogised, and the spirit of the Government is a model for all the United Nations."
New Zealand stands high in the opinion of the world, and so does its leader, the Rt. Hon. Peter Fraser. Said Lord Beayerbrook, "I am much impressed with Mr. Fraser. He is quiet and does not criticise unnecessarily, but is not afraid to make discerning and forceful criticism. He is a strong man." And nothing less than a strong man, fearless and forthright, is needed to pilot New Zealand through the troublous waters of war. For 25 years the electors of Wellington Central have evidenced their faith in Peter Fraser. It is expected that their endorsement of him as a national leader, as well as their member, will be more enthusiastic than ever.—Advt.
