Mrs. Roosevelt was driven to Parliament House amid: scenes of excitement and enthusiasm such as -have rarely been witnessed in the capital. An official enclosure at the aero~ drome was thronged long before the plane was due, and crowds lined the boundary fence of the aerodrome to witness the official welcome ceremony. At Parliament House, past which her car drove on the way to Government House, a dense crowd had gathered to give America's First Lady a rousing welcome. , ..

Mrs. Roosevelt's plane landed at a Sydney aerodrome before proceeding to Canberra. She was greeted by United States army and diplomatic officials and the American Minister to Australia, Mr. Nelson Johnson, joined the plane for the trip to Canberra.

Mrs. Roosevelt will pay short -visits to Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane before concluding her' Australian • tour. Tonight she dined formally at Government House.
