GEN ARNOLD IN LONDON
LONDON, September 3
General Arnold, Commanding General of the United States Army Air Forces, has arrived from Washington for conferences with British and American air chiefs, and also for visits to American Air Force combat stations and hospitals.
European aid to help the Maoris to overcome their failings and to establish that equality with the rest of the community that was vitally necessary for their well-being was urged by Captain Ralph Love, Maori liaison officer, when responding to a toast at a welcome to returned servicemen at Waitara. Captain Love said that the Maoris had already contributed substantially in men for the forces, and there were many more ready to serve. The Maoris were also fighting for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of their own people. In the minds of the men overseas there was one question uppermost—what was going to happen to the Maori people when peace returned? One of the jobs they had to do was to get the Maori people out of the bad habit they had acquired of taking things easy.
