PRISONERS OF WAR
NO PAY DEDUCTIONS
A letter from a New Zealander who is a-prisoner of war in Germany drew the attention of the N.Z.R.S.A. to a circular received at the camp stating that pay received from the detaining Power is debited against the pay accounts of New Zealand Medical Corps or other protected personnel -who fall into enemy hands. Theuman in question pointed out that Us> to the time of writing he had received about 720 marks, which was much in excess oi his actual needs.arid that this allowance of 54 marks a month was being deducted in equivalent New Zealand currency from the credit in his Army pay account • Headquarters of the R.S.A. brought this to the notice of Base Records, and the association has now been advised that the New Zealand Government has decided that all non-commissioned rank members of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. (inclusive of protected personnel), who are or have been prisoners of war, shall not have their pay ledger accounts charged with any "working" or "non-working pay which may be paid to them by the detaining Power.
