FIRE IN CANVAS FACTORY
The accidental ignition of a vat of highly inflammable waterproofing liquid caused a spectacular fire at the canvas goods factory of J. J. McCaskey and Son, Ltd., 165b Vivian Street, about 6.15 a.m. today. The automatic sprinkler system came into operation immediately and held the flames in check, but they were still vigorous and burning brightly in different colours when the firemen arrived and extinguished them with foam apparatus. The fire occurred on the third floor of a four-storey concrete building, and it caused considerable damage to stock and machinery.
