MR. F. K. DE CASTRO

The death has occurred at Napier of Mr. Frederick Knox de Castro, a former Secretary for Education, at the age of 84. Mr. de Castro entered the Civil Service in 1874 as a cadet in the Treasury,- and he retired in 1917, having completed 43 years in the service. He was transferred to the Education Department in 1878, when this Department was first established as the outcome of the passing of the Education Act the previous year.
