WAR PENSIONS DELAYS

In order to facilitate the handling of war pensions, a War Pensions Board in each of the main centres is recommended by the New Zealand War Amputees' Association, now in conference in Wellington. Delegates stated today that the present War Pensions Board was seriously overworked, and many months of delay were entailed in the handling of pensions affairs, with consequent hardship to the applicants. Some of the cases, it was stated, were seven months behind. The' Constitution suggested by the conference was one Government member and two representatives from the R.S.A., the R.S.A. nominees to include at least one amputee. It was asked also that a war pensioner applicant be entitled to call evidence at the Government's expense.
