CATCHING UP NOW
CITY COAL DELIVERIES
Though deliveries of coal orders in the city are still well behind ithe position is much .better than it was a month ago, and. is improving all the time. The lateness of, delivery varies from dealer to dealer, but the case of one of- the largest distributors probably gives an average picture. At the beginning of August this company was struggling with orders 11 and 12 weeks old; now the most overdue orders are eight and nine.weeks old, so that a good three weeks has been gained. The overdue weekly orders are being- distributed-on the average in four days, so that the overhauling is much;better than seemed likely even a month ago, and is the better again as the new. orders are now lighter than they were in the mid-winter months. There are ample stocks at present. Even so, people who have waited eight weeks are not too happy about it. A good many people are picking' up a -bag-or two at a time' in their own cars or by arrangement with, other drivers. If things run along smoothly the back orders will be cleared up at a progressively faster rate from now on.
