AIR BATTLESHIPS

HUGE NEW U.S. PLANES

NEW YORK, September 1. A new and revolutionary air battleship with a bomb capacity of half a car-load and a flying range for a round trip from America to Europe and back again, will soon blast our enemies from the skies, the Chief of the Army Air Forces, General H. H. Arnold, disclosed in an article in the magazine "Army Ordnance."

He added that the new bomber dwarfs the Flying Fortress and has numerous blisters, which are multiplegun power turrets and can be controlled from sighting stations, and also bomb-sights as revolutionary as was the present Norden sight. 1 The air battleships carry bombs of an entirely new design, and they may mount heavy-calibre cannon with a new principle of operation. General Arnold also disclosed that the air forces of the near future will have new types of fighter planes which will have advanced beyond recognition in shape and combat equipment.
